| Company 2 was called for an outside fire on Wednesday evening at 11:46 PM. Upon arrival at the scene a burn pile was smoldering behind a residence in Fairfield Borough. The fire was quickly extinguished and no other issues were reported on the call.
As a reminder the Fire Danger Warning is currently at Moderate, so If you are planning to burn outside, please be safe and remember to check with local Townships and Boroughs concerning burning regulations. If you do burn outside just follow these steps to ensure your fire has been extinguished.
Drown - Pour lots of water on the fire until the hissing sound stops, drowning all the embers — don’t extinguish a fire with just dirt or sand.
Stir - Use your shovel to stir the water into the embers, dirt, and sand, and mix well. Scrape any sticks and logs until no embers are exposed or smoldering, not just the red ones.
Drown Again - Continue adding water, dirt, and sand until all material is cool.
Feel - Hover the back of your hand over the ashes to feel that the embers are cool — don’t leave without making sure your fire is entirely out.
ANYTIME you plan on doing any outside burning you MUST CALL the Adams County Department of Emergency Services at (717) 334-8101. |
